Donald Duck in race row
A DISNEYLAND theme park's Donald
Duck is at the centre of a racism row after the cartoon favourite was
said to have snubbed a black family.
A performer was accused of deliberately ignoring Nastasia White and her children Razzi, five, and Ryder, two, while playing with white children nearby.
Nastasia told how he strode past little Razzi, there for a birthday treat, and refused to pose for a snap with the children at the Magic Kingdom in Florida’s Disney World.
'I was upset and hurt. He was very sad,' she said.
White told reporters at ABC 10 News that Razzi asked her: ''Why didn't Donald want to take a picture with me?' Inside, I wanted to cry. This was discrimination.'
She claims it was impossible she misread the situation.
'I didn't because it was done in a blatant and ugly way,' she said.
Her complaint comes after another black family accused a performer dressed as Alice in Wonderland’s White Rabbit of ignoring their children at Disneyland, California, last summer.
That family are suing Disneyland for alleged racial discrimination. Disney officials said they did not believe the first complaint was about discrimination, but instead ignoring a child.
Attorney Dan Gilleon is now representing both families.
'I've gotten many emails and voicemails that I'm looking into. What this tells me is this isn't an isolated incident. It doesn't mean Disneyland is racist, but they have some people in the company who aren't playing by the rules and are being discriminatory,' GIlleon said.
Gilleon said he'd subpoena Disney for surveillance video of the incidents.
